As Le’Bulga continues to grow as a company, founder Natalia Konovalova feels it’s more important than ever to give back to the needy. In 2010, the company made significant donations to a variety of charities:
Hour Children—Le’Bulga donated $60,000 worth of clothing to Hour Children, a family service organization that provides permanent and transitional housing plus various services to transform the lives of women and their families involved in the criminal justice system.
St. Jude Hospital—On February 17, 2010, Le’Bulga donated bags to Stars of Hope-Handbags for Hope, an auction to raise money for St. Jude Hospital in New York. More than $250,000 was raised at the auction.
Torah School—Le’Bulga donated a significant number of bags for a school auction to benefit Torah School in Brooklyn, New York.
Because a “clothes call” goes a long way
Here’s a sobering fact: Over 700,000 Russian children live in orphanages. Of those, 17,900 are toddlers under the age of 4. Many have simply been abandoned by their mothers who couldn’t afford to care for them. While the state provides basic food for these orphans, adequate clothing is just not available.
When Le’Bulga founder Natalia Konovalova recently visited Voronezh, Russia, she was heartbroken to discover local orphanages could barely clothe those in their care. Raised in Uzbekistan herself, she stopped into the orphanage while visiting her parents in Russia. She felt immediately moved to “give back” with the charity Happy Child Better World.
“Good deeds have no borders,” says Konovolova. “These children have so little to start with, and in today’s world of so much excess, clothing should not be a desperate need.
The aim is simple: clothe the children, then reach out to educate and help mothers to come to a different decision.
To kick-start her program, Happy Child Better World will host a holiday drive for clothing for Russia’s long, cold winter. The goal is to gather and send enough donations to Russia to clothe all the children at the Voronezh orphanages.
What you can do: Send new clothing for infants and gently-used clothes for those under four years of age. Please send winter clothes, boots, hats, jackets, gloves and scarves. Donation items should be sent to FY Global/attn. Le’Bulga (HCBW) to 213 west 35th street 7th Floor New York, NY 10001 starting November 15th and until February 15th.
Sorry no monetarily donations are accepted at this time.
While times are tough in America, conditions in Russia are far worse. The average monthly salary in Russia is around $500 per month. In the U.S., it’s roughly $6,750. Every donation helps—no matter how small.
It’s time we unite in addressing these challenges across borders to help those who have no one to care for them. We are hoping you’ll consider joining with Le’Bulga, Happy Child Better World, and Natalia in making a difference to those less fortunate this holiday season.
